Final Part 2
I kind of did this as my last blog assignment last night, but here are the three things I like most about my newfound media literacy. Like I said before, I really enjoyed learning how to use the Adobe programs. I think that having the knowledge about using these programs will help me out greatly later in life. Not only with the rest of my classes here at Marist, but when I get a job in...
Reflection on Our Class
Overall I really enjoyed learning to use all of the Adobe programs. That was probably my favorite part of class. I always enjoyed coming in on Wednesdays to work on projects in these programs. I think it benefited me greatly to learn how to use these programs, and I even began to use them in other classes throughout the semester. Thank you for introducing me to these media programs!
Media Influences
With the end of the year papers and presentations the 8 other girls in my house have been going crazy! So we were discussing paper topics and two of the girls have papers to write on the topic of media in todays society. One of them had to write about how cell phones are affecting today’s adolescents. Cell phones are increasingly being used in business situations and at...

I opened up my internet browser and I have the home page set as aol.com. I like to read the top stories that come up, yes, this is my only source of news. I know we discussed this in class one time about college students not paying attention to the news but i honestly never watch tv or see a newspaper on campus (besides The Circle). So I get my news from aol. Anyway, I saw this...
Everyone has seen the Abercrombie Ads with the models showing as much skin as possible. What I wonder about this ad is that Abercrombie & Fitch is a clothing strore, however, there is not one piece of clothing in this ad!

Docile Bodies 1
Docile bodies are used in advertising very frequently. This is because a docile body is influenced by the social norms on the time period. In advertising the goal is to get consumers to relate to your product and for the most part people want to be a part of the social norms of the day so by using a docile body in the ad it will create a desire within the consumer. This is an ad that Victoria...
Glamour
In the book, Practices of Looking, it says that glamour is something that people strive to achieve. Something that is glamorous is something that everyone sees as having high importance or beauty. Ads use glamour to try to get consumers to buy a product. They want the consumers to envy the people or things in the ad so that they will go out and get this so called “glamorous”...
Player B
Hold things down (for ex. in windy weather outside). Create a brick patio. Use as a weight. Put things in the holes (flowers). Hold open a door.

Believing The Internet
So we all know that you can’t believe everything you read on the internet. Over break my friends and I found out just how true this is! About a month ago I received an invitation on Facebook to attend “Free Ice Coffee Day” at Dunkin Donuts on March 21. I of course accepted and then sent it to my friends who I knew would also be very excited about this! We all believed that...

Collective Desires
When I think about what American’s in today’s world collectively desire one of the things that comes to mind is instant gratification. Our generation has been surrounded by products and ideas that give us what we want instantly. Between instant messenger, cell phones, and facebook, you can pretty much contact anyone as soon as you have the desire to talk to them. Growing up in...
The Century of the Self
The documentary that we watched in class called, The Century of the Self, is about Edward Bernays and how he became famous for “knowing what people want.” After World War I there was mass production of products and it was soon found that you had to create a desire within a person to want to buy a product. This is about the time that advertising became important and Bernays had a...

Missed Media
After picking up my prescription at Health Services last Friday i immediately threw it in my backpack and walked back to my room. When I went to take a pill a little while later I ripped open the bag and was about to throw it away when I realized there was writing on it. I noticed that there were six different ads on the bag for different offices and services located in Poughkeepsie and the...
