While this is not your typical advertisement on paper, television, or the radio, I did think of this at my swim meet this past weekend. We were at an away swim meet where we had to sit through two 45 minute diving sessions because the school we were at did not have a separate diving well. While sitting there waiting for the swim events to start I looked around at my team as well as the other team and I noticed that there was a large number of people listening to iPods. I have always known that a lot of people on my team have iPods but I never stopped to think about how we are technically advertising the iPod for Apple.
Just by using their product in public we are creating advertisements for the iPod. Especially when I see that the pepole who are listening to them are the swimmers who are typically the faster and more focused swimmers. This creates a positive image for the Apple iPod because it is linked with success in athletic competitions, at least it is in my experience at swim meets.
